The performances are simple and straightforward, making them equally suitable for home listening. Each hymn is preceded by an organ playover of the first line, and the recorded words are compatible with Hymns Ancient and Modern ('Revised' and 'New Standard').

Before we made the recordings we conducted trials with a village congregation. These proved that choir-and-organ recordings are much more effective in leading singing than organ-only. The presence of the recorded choir creates the impression of a larger body of people, and encourages those present to sing.
