"We are highly satisfied with the sound system installed in St John's Church, Washingborough, Lincoln by Cantoris Sound. Their understanding, advice, quality of workmanship and equipment could not be bettered, and it has been a pleasure to work with them. They are, most definitely, to be recommended."
P Hutchison, Churchwarden

We design and install sound systems for public and commercial buildings, and churches, as well as serving as consultants for sound installation projects.

Cantoris systems combine innovation, good engineering and aesthetic understanding. They sound superb and blend visually with their surroundings; they are easy to operate and will last for many years. Systems we installed over 25 years ago are still in regular use: reliability is 'designed in' to our systems, and we provide excellent long-term service which can include such things as microphone technique.

We specialise in architectural installations, and have recently fitted new systems in a number of churches. As always, these were planned in consultation with church and diocesan authorities, and consultant architects, to provide complete sound coverage and to integrate with the architecture.

Our installations attract many compliments for the quality of their sound and their discreet appearance. As well as loudspeakers, induction loops are normally included, for compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

We recently completed a major installation at Lincoln's new City and County Museum, 'The Collection'. This fully automatic multi-channel system includes 22 hidden Amina 'flat panel' loudspeakers in the 'talking wall', controlled by the Allen and Heath 'iDR' system and powered by Mustang amplifiers. It is used to deliver a specially commissioned recording created by Dutch artist Adinda van't Klooster. It is not only the speakers that are invisible: 1.2 miles of cable have been totally hidden from view. The photograph to the right shows children listening to the 'talking wall', and system designer Paul Pinchbeck (Photo courtesy of Allen & Heath Ltd). Click here for further details.

We are also installing the state-of-the-art sound systems at The Priory Centre in Lincoln. This Victorian church, which was derelict for many years, is being restored for church and community use. Versatility is a prime requirement for the sound installation, which will be controlled by Allen and Heath's 'iDR' software-based system. As well as high-quality amplification to loudspeakers, the installation will provide a variety of facilities, including induction loops and recording systems.

Cantoris can also provide systems for nightclubs, theatres, etc. Our professional team includes some of Britain's most highly-regarded experts in this field, and we specify equipment which delivers high quality sound even at high levels. This results in a fatigue-free listening experience for audiences, who will stay longer in your venue, making the sound system a real investment.

As well as supplying complete new systems we can sometimes transform existing systems by redesigning and upgrading them.

Public buildings and churches

Flat panel loudspeakers

Flat panel loudspeakers

Amina 'flat panel' loudspeakers are the ultimate solution for architecturally sensitive buildings. Only 35mm thick, they will take a wide range of finishes to blend with their environment.

These speakers are in use in the Palace of Westminster and Wells Cathedral, and we ourselves have installed them in parish churches as well as in Lincoln's new City and County Museum.

The speaker illustrated on the left (between the windows) has been painted in the same colour as the church wall: the most conspicuous thing about it is its own shadow!

Lighting

While working in churches, we often find that these buildings suffer from inadequate lighting. Visibility is of prime importance, enabling congregations and visitors to read and see their way around - but what if the lighting was improved to allow the eye to enjoy the architecture as well?

Modern lighting design can breathe a new and revealing atmosphere into your church's architecture, being both functional and pleasing. As added benefits, low-energy, long-life lamps allow these amazing results to be achieved with minimal power consumption - and fewer ascents of ladders and scaffolding to replace expensive bulbs!

So, to complement our audio visual work, I have invited freelance lighting consultant Graham J McLusky to work with me, to offer a more comprehensive service to churches. Graham has worked as a lighting designer for nearly 30 years. He has spent much of this time working within the Entertainment Industry and with architects and interior designers. Some of his most ambitious schemes have taken place in Saudi Arabia, developing lighting designs for private and Government initiatives, auditoria and major function halls within the Kingdom. He has developed lighting projects for numerous theatrical shows in the West End, Europe, Canada, South Africa, the USA and even Broadway.

If you feel that your church's lighting - either interior or exterior - could do with an overhaul, call us on 01522 536981 for an initial chat, without obligation.
